APS case: delivering e-scooters from China to Germany

10 January 2022
Route: China – Hungary – Germany
Vehicle: road train with non-temperature controlled refrigerated semi-trailer
Cargo: electric kick scooters

Client’s request
Delivery of e-scooters from China to Germany with customs clearance in Hungary.

APS solution
The carriage of electric scooters was performed involving a road train with a refrigerated semi-trailer, the temperature unit of which was off. The all-metal body reliably protects against moisture ingress, the anti-vandal lock and alarm on the semi-trailer increase the level of protection against unauthorized access to the cargo.

The goods were loaded into the APS road train at the Manzhouli border crossing between China and Russia.

When carrying out international transportation of electric scooters, it is important to pay attention to the type of battery installation. In this case, the scooters had built-in lithium-ion batteries therefore there were no special requirements for their transportation on the route.

The cargo was directed to Hungary for the customs clearance, after which it was delivered to the place of unloading in Germany.

Pavel Osedach Leading specialist in transportation of hazardous cargo

In the practice of APS, this is far from the first carriage of electric scooters. This case is quite simple: the accumulator is built into the frame, which creates kind of an additional barrier to the dangerous lithium-ion batteries. Both in China and in the member states of the ADR Convention, such models of electric scooters are not considered dangerous goods. Unlike the models equipped with an optional removable battery which represent ADR cargo. It is also important to have knowledge about the marking and requirements for the transport of dangerous goods in all countries of the planned route.
