APS case: transportation of saplings from Turkey to Uzbekistan

19 October 2020
Route: Turkey - Uzbekistan
Vehicle: refrigerated truck
Cargo: saplings

Client’s request
Delivery of ornamental shrub saplings with maintenance of the microclimate.

APS solution
The key to a healthy lushy blooming plant lies not only in the choice of a planting material. In case of transportation, a major role plays the temperature, which is significant to maintain in the semi-trailer during the carriage.

The ornamental shrub saplings were grown in a nursery where temperature conditions are highly close to the climate of the future planting site. Each sapling was in a unit pack, which provided the necessary level of soil moisture during the transportation. To ptotect young branches, the crown was wrapped round with a special net. The height of the plants varied from one and a half to two metres. The optimal type of vehicle for such a transportation is a one-deck refrigerated truck. The client ordered three road trains of this kind to deliver the whole lot of the saplings.

While loading, the conditions necessary for even air circulation and maintaining appropriate temperature and humidity level were observed: low-growing shrubs were placed in the front and back sides of the semi-trailer, and no less than 30 cm of free space was left over the plants' crowns.

Along the route, picturesque Turkish coastlines gave place to mountain landscapes of Georgia, plain expanses of Russia, steppes of Kazakhstan. Having passed over four thousand kilometres, two climatic zones, five states, four customs areas, the saplings reached Tashkent, where they will be creating a saving shade on hot summer days.
